Vientiane Capital, 4^th August 2020: Dr Pia Rebello Britto, UNICEF Representative to Lao PDR presented today the Letter of Credence to H.E. Mr. Thongphane SAVANPHET, Deputy-Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR. 

During the ceremony, H.E Mr Thongphane SAVANPHET congratulated Dr Pia Rebello Britto for her appointment as UNICEF Representative to Lao PDR. He appreciates UNICEF assistance to Lao PDR in support of the agenda for children, the implementation of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and is looking forward to continuing close collaboration with UNICEF on the efforts towards achieving the goals of 8^th National Socio-Economic Development Plan, graduation from Least Developing Country and implementation of the SDGs.

Thanking the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for her warm welcome and appreciation to UNICEF’s work, Dr Pia Rebello Britto assures that she shall on her part, do her best to fulfil his duties in further strengthening and promoting the collaboration and cooperation between the Government of Lao PDR and UNICEF in realization of the rights of the children in Lao PDR.

Dr Pia Rebello Britto is confident that through the strong partnership with the Government of the Lao PDR and close collaboration with other partners, the objectives of the new programme of cooperation for 2017-21 will be achieved contributing to the priorities of the national development agenda and Sustainable Development Goals.

Finally, she conveys her best wishes for continued progress and prosperity of the people of the Lao PDR, especially children - the future of the country.
