Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, his spouse and a delegation of senior officials arrived in Thailand on Tuesday to kick off his two-day visit to the Kingdom in response to an invitation by his Thai counterpart Prayut Chan-o-cha.

On the first day of his visit to Thailand, Prime Minister Thongloun paid a courtesy call to Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn at Sra Pratum Palace in Bangkok.

At talks, the Thai princess warmly welcomed the prime minister and expressed appreciation for his visit to Thailand to enhance the good relations and cooperation between the two countries and Lao and Thai people.

In reply, the prime minister thanked Princess Sirindhorn for her warm welcome and conveyed the regards of President Bounnhang Vorachit to the Princess.

The objective of Prime Minister Thongloun visit to Thailand is to enhance the longstanding good relations and cooperation between Laos and Thailand.

He is expected to meet with Thailand’s Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday where the two government leaders are expected to focus their discussion on the cooperation between the two countries under bilateral and multilateral frameworks, especially on economics, trade, investment and border demarcation.

Thailand ranks as the second largest investor in Laos and the largest trade partner. Bilateral trade between the two countries increased from US$2 billion in 2014 to US$6 billion last year.

The amount includes more than US$4 billion in imports from Thailand to Laos, and US$1.4 billion in exports from Laos to Thailand.
