One of the key achievements is that ASEAN as an inter-governmental rules-based organisation has continued to strengthen partnership and cooperation among ASEAN Member States as well as with Dialogue partners based on the principles enshrined in the ASEAN Charter, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) and ASEAN led-mechanisms, such as the principles of peaceful coexistence, respect for independence, sovereignty, non-interference, peaceful solutions, consensus and mutual benefits by taking into account the region’s diversity which is known as “ASEAN way”.

Over the year, there have been remarkable achievements on the implementation of initiatives, measures and activities covering the 3 key community pillars. Importantly, over 22 years since its accession to ASEAN, the Lao PDR has actively participated in the collective process of ASEAN, which has significantly promoted the role of the Lao PDR in the region and the world. At the same time, the ASEAN Free Trade Areas and Free Trade Areas with dialogue partners have significantly contributed towards promoting trade and investment in the Lao PDR.
ASEAN today is one of the world’s most successful regional organisations that is outward-looking and play an instrumental role in shaping an open and inclusive regional architecture with ASEAN at the centre. The Lao PDR is proud to be part of the ASEAN family and grateful for the assistance, support and cooperation from ASEAN Member States and external partners extended to the Lao PDR which enabled us to fully and effectively participate in all areas of cooperation under the ASEAN frameworks over the past 22 years and bring the utmost benefits to our country.
