ASEAN FOREIGN MINISTERS’ STATEMENT ON

THE TERRORIST ATTACK IN JAKARTA

ASEAN Member States strongly condemn the terrorist attackin Jakarta, Indonesia on 14 January 2016, which caused the loss of innocent lives, injuries, and damage to properties.

ASEAN extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to the Indonesian Government and people, especially to the families of the victims ofthis attack.

ASEAN Member States commend the Indonesian security forces’ swift and courageous actions in responding to the attack.

ASEAN fully supports the Government of Indonesia in bringing the perpetrators of these heinous acts to justice, and remains united and committed to working with the international community to further intensify its cooperation to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whom so ever it is committed.

ASEAN FOREIGN MINISTERS’ STATEMENT ON THE NUCLEAR TEST BY THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA

On 6 January 2016, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) conducted another nuclear test, which is in violation of the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

ASEAN reaffirms the importance of peace and security on the Korean Peninsula and reiterates its full support for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula in a peaceful manner. We urge the DPRK to comply with all the relevant UNSC resolutions and call on all parties concerned to exert common efforts to maintain peace and security in the said region and create an environment conducive to the early resumption of the Six-Party Talks to help pave the way for maintaining and strengthening peace, security and stability in the region and the world.
