 Press Briefing on Preparations for the 49th AMM and related Meetings

On 16 July 2016, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a press briefing on preparations for the 49th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related Meetings.

During the briefing,acting spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR informed the media that H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao PDR, as Chairman of the AMM will host the 49th AMM, SEANWFZ Commission Meeting, Post Ministerial Conferences (PMC), 17th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, 6th East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and 23rd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) from 23-26 July 2016 in Vientiane, Lao PDR.

The Opening of the 49th AMM will be held on 24th July 2016 in Donchan Palace Hotel. H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, Prime Minister of Lao PDR, will officiate this event.

At the 49th AMM, ASEAN Foreign Ministers will discuss follow-up issues to the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat held in February 2016 in Vientiane. The ASEAN Foreign Ministers will deliberate on how to strengthen the ASEAN Community, including the implementation of the ASEAN Political-Security Community Blueprint 2025, discuss the work of the ASEAN Inter-governmental Commission on Human Rights for the year 2016, and make preparations for the related Meetings. The Ministers will also exchange views on regional and international issues of common concern and interest.

In addition, ASEAN Foreign Ministers will meet with their counterparts from Dialogue Partner countries and external partners to review and chart out future direction for their respective cooperation under ASEAN-led mechanisms namely, ASEAN+1, APT, EAS and ARF.
