President returned from Singapore

President
Choummaly Sayasone, his wife, and a delegation of
government officials returned to Laos yesterday after a
successful state visit to Singapore from June 8-11. This
state visit was in response to an invitation from
President Sellaban Rana Nathan of Singapore.
An official welcoming
ceremony for the Lao delegation took place in Singapore
on June 9 at the presidential palace, followed by
bilateral meetings to exchange views. During the talks
the two sides said they highly valued the relations and
cooperation between both nations.
The two sides agreed
to continue exchange visits by leaders and delegations
at various levels for mutual support in the regional and
international arena. The two leaders reached consensus
in cooperation on tourism, trade and investment between
Laos and Singapore.
The visit by
President Choummaly is significant in developing the
relationship and cooperation between the two countries.
President Choummaly
thanked the Singaporean side for agreeing to provide
further assistance to Laos in the areas of human
resource development, tourism, trade and investment.
Singapore will also help Laos with preparations to host
the South East Asian Games next year.
In recognition of
President Choummaly's visit, a plant research centre in
Singapore has named a new orchid species “Choummaly
Keosaichay Sayasone”.
