Dr.
Thongloun received UNSC Vice Assistant
Laos and United Nations Security Council (UNSC) have
discussed further cooperation in combating international
terrorism.
The discussion took place during
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affair
Thongloun Sisoulith received here on 12 May 2008, Vice
Assistant of UN Secretary General and Secretary of
Combating International Terrorism Commission of United
Nations, Mr Mike Smith.
Mr Thongloun, who is also Chairman of National Taskforce
Committee for implementation of 1373 resolution of UNSC,
has highly valued the working visit of the delegation of
UNSC from 12 to 15 May, and he also informed the
national measure on combating international terrorism
has been implemented over the past one year to the UN
delegation.
Mr Smith also highly valued the
efforts of Lao government in contribution to the
combating international terrorism movement, considering
as the implementation of the 1373 resolution of UNSC.
At the same event, the UN delegation has met the
National Taskforce Committee for Combating International
Terrorism led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr.
Bounkeuth Sangsomsak, where he briefed the
implementation of UN resolution on combating
international terrorism and national measure on
combating international terrorism to the UN delegation.
The past seven years, the Lao
government has sent three national reports to the UN.
In addition, the Lao government has paid attention to
the implementation of UNSC resolution through the
establishment of the National Taskforce Committee for
Combating International Terrorism, creation of national
mechanism operation and international coordinating
mechanism. Besides, the Laos has also amended criminal
law and other law in line with international cooperation
in the region. Lao side asked for UNSC to provide
assistance to Laos.
During the visit, the UN
delegation would also visit immigration checkpoint in
Wattay Airport and FriendshipBridge.
