Laos and Thailand sign cooperation agreements

Seven cooperation documents between Laos and Thailand were signed after discussions between Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith and Thai Foreign Minister Mr. Kasith Piromya in Bangkok, Thailand, on May 13.

The documents comprise a note to the 15th Lao-Thai Joint Commission Cooperation Committee signed by Dr. Thongloun and Mr. Kasith; an agreement on an exchange of rental land between the two nations for consular affairs facilities signed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Hiem Phommachanh and Thai Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Wiboon Khusakul; a memorandum of understanding relating to agreements on the purchase of electricity generated by the Num Theun 2 project; and an agreement on a project involving a 115 kw transmission line to carry electricity between Thalee power station in Thailand and Paklay power station in Laos.

The two nations also certified amended agreements on the purchase of electricity from the Num Ngum 1 and Xeset dams signed by Acting Director General of Electricity of Laos, Mr. Khammany Inthalath and Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Mr. Sombat Santijaree.

A tariff memorandum of understanding on the Hongsa lignite project was signed by Mr. Sombat and a developer representative.
