President of the Lao PDR ends visit to Thailand

President Choummaly sayasone and his delegation returned to Vientiane on May 14 after a three-day state visit to the kingdom of Thailand.

An official ceremony to welcome the President and his delegation on their return home was held at the Presidential Place, attened by government officials and representatives from the Thai Embassy to Laos.

The President’s visit was in response to an invitation from king of Thailand, Bhumibol Aduyadej.

Speaking at a welcome dinner hosted by the King of Thailand, President Choummaly sayasone said Laos and Thailand were neighbouring countries with a shared border and had similar cultures and languages.

President Choummaly sayasone said the Lao and Thai people had a long relationship and had provided assistance to one another for many years.

The close relationship between the people of Laos and Thailand was receiving further support through successful cooperation in various fields, including politics and economics.

King Bhumibol said the Lao and Thai people would continue to further strengthen their relationship and promote cooperation in other areas.

The King said he believed the visit by Lao President Choummaly was a good indication of the promotion of a stronger relation between the two nations.

During his visit, President Choummaly also met Thai government officials including Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, staff of the Lao Embassy to Thailand in Bangkok, Lao residents of Thailand and Lao students furthering their education in Bangkok.

President Choummaly also toured historical sites and royal projects in Bangkok.
