Affairs, left Vientiane on 18 May for Special ASEAN
Foreign Ministers’ Meeting to relieve cyclone-hit
Myanmar held in Singapore on 19 May 2008.
The special
meeting of ASEAN foreign ministers would discuss a
number of issues and consider how best to assist Myanmar
in its relief and recovery efforts. The one-day meeting
would also hear a report from Myanmar foreign minister
on the critical situation in Myanmar in the aftermath of
the Cyclone Nargis, which killed over 20,000 people and
devastated the country.
ASEAN Secretary
General Dr. Surin Pitsuwan would also report the
donations from ASEAN member countries to Myanmar.
