42nd AMM official kick off in Phuket, Thailand
The Lao delegations led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minster of Foreign Affairs Dr. Thongloun Sisoulith yesterday joined the opening ceremony of the 42nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (42nd AMM) with other ASEAN member countries Foreign Ministers in Phuket, Thailand.
The four days meeting which will be closed 23 July, comprised 32 meetings, including 19 Ministerial Meetings.The 10 ASEAN Foreign Ministers will adopt a number of documents including the Joint Communique of the 42nd Ministerial Meeting, the Terms of Reference (ToR) of an ASEAN Human Rights Body, and the ASEAN Work Plan on Maintaining and Enhancing ASEAN Centrality.
The AMM would also include a series of meetings with ASEAN’s Dialogue Partners - China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the US, Russia and the EU.
The ASEAN Regional Forum meanwhile is expected to adopt the ARF Vision Statement which lays out its approach for regional security cooperation in the years ahead.
At the meeting, the ASEAN Foreign Ministers will be gathering to review the progress of ASEAN Community building, ASEAN Charter Organation as the other agreement documents of the 14th ASEAN Summit in Hua Hin in the last few months.This is the best chance for Laos to promote and disseminating on foreign policy of peace, freedom, friendship, relationship and cooperation between ASEAN Countries and its dialogue partners.
It also to obtain the assistance from the ASEAN Member States for the contribution in Lao socio-economic development as well as a good opportunity for Laos to contribute a cooperation in ASEAN and between ASEAN-Dialogue countries.
