Laos and S. Korea expand cooperation
Lao Prime Minister has made an
official announcement of a 15-day visa exemption for
tourists from the Republic of Korea during his recent
three-day visit to Korea.
The visit was at the invitation
of Mr. Han Seung-soo, Prime Minister of the Republic of
Korea.
During his stay in Seoul from the June 18, PM Bouasone
called on RoK President Lee Myung-bak and held talks
with his Korean counterpart, Han Seung-soo,
The two premiers have evaluated
the bilateral friendship and cooperation, and find
practical ways to promote the cooperation. Since 1995,
the co-operation on trade, investment and the exchange
visit between the high-ranking officials of the two
sides has increased. The Korean investment in energy,
natural resource development and other sectors has
contributed to the social-economic development of Laos.
The ROK side has asked Laos to continue to support as
well as to provide facilities to ROK companies in
investment in Laos.
The sides have agreed to
facilitate the discussion between organizations
concerned from both countries to find ways to strengthen
their co-operation in the future in anticipation of the
celebration of the 15th founding anniversary of the
diplomatic relations between Laos and the Republic of
Korea in 2010.
PM Bouasone pointed out that the
Lao government had paid attention to the open-up policy
to attract foreign investment in mining, hydropower and
tourism, and asked for support from the ROK. PM Bouasone
also expressed thanks to the ROK government and people
for their kind assistance and support for Laos in the
past and at present, considered a big contribution to
the social-economic development in Laos.
The Korea trip took the Lao Prime
Minister and his delegation to a number of cultural,
social-economic development sites in Seoul.
