Laos, Vietnam review relations, cooperation
Lao and Vietnamese leaders yesterday reviewed the achievements gained from the bilateral cooperation between Lao- Vietnam.
The review took place after the arrival of a high-ranking elegation from Vietnam, led by Vice President Ms Nguyen hi Doan, as part of a four-day official visit to Laos from April 21-2
The first visit by Ms Nguyen Thi Doan to Laos is in response to an invitation from her Lao counterpart, Mr Bounnhang Vorachit, Vice President of the Lao PDR.
An official welcoming ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace, where the delegation was received by Mr Bounnhang and high-ranking Lao officials from various ministries, followed by bilateral talks.
On behalf of the Party, government and the multiethnic Lao people, Mr Bounnhang welcomed Ms Nguyen Thi Doan and her delegation to Laos.
Leaders from both sides said they highly appreciated their longstanding friendly relations, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation, which was reflected in regular exchange visits between leaders of the two Parties and governments.
They acknowledged that the mutual encouragement and assistance for each other in all areas brought tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
The Lao side praised and congratulated Vietnam on its success in launching its first communications satellite, VINASAT-1, on April 19. Vietnam is listed as the 93 rd country in the world and the sixth in South-East Asia to have a satellite in orbit.
The Vietnamese side praised Laos and commended its success in hosting the Third Greater Mekong Sub-region Summit held in Vientiane from March 30-31, which raised the status of Laos in both the regional and international arenas.
The bilateral talks took place in a cordial atmosphere with mutual understanding, reflecting the traditional special solidarity and the desire of both countries to foster their comprehensive cooperation for greater effectiveness and further growth.
On the same day, the delegation paid a courtesy visit to Party Secretary General and President of Laos Choummaly Sayasone, at the Presidential Palace, and to the President of the National Assembly, Mr Thongsing Thammavong.
Yesterday evening, Mr Bounnhang hosted a dinner in honour of Ms Nguyen Thi Doan and her delegation.
