Prime Minister urges public participation in GMS Summit
Prime Minister Bouasone Bouphavanh has urged all sectors
of society to contribute to the hosting of the Third
Greater Mekong Sub-region Summit (GMS), which will be
held in Vientiane from March 30-31.
The Prime Minister issued an order recently to
ministers, the Vientiane Mayor and provincial governors
urging them to encourage officials and the public to
take part in ensuring the success of the summit.
Mr. Bouasone also encouraged them to circulate
information regarding the government’s policy on GMS
cooperation and the significance as the benefits the
nation will gain from GMS cooperation.
Such benefits include infrastructure development,
especially roads, linking Laos with the region and
transforming its landlocked status to a land link for
transportation in the region.
The road link will facilitate tourism, investment and
goods transportation, enabling Lao products to complete
with those from other countries in the world market.
The prime minister assigned the newly established Water
Resource and Environment Authority to provide handouts
to various sectors to explain the aims of the summit.
Mr. Bouasone encouraged officials to ensure order and
security during the event and to keep the capital
looking attractive. He urged all people, especially
those in Vientiane, to maintain their tradition of being
good hosts, just as they have for previous international
meetings.
He encouraged the national steering committee
responsible for preparing the GMS Summit, ministries and
relevant sectors to continue advising, collaborating and
working hard in the area of their responsibility.
