Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia Hor Namhong is paying a working visit to the Lao PDR on Oct 28 - Nov 1 to strengthen bilateral relations and good cooperation between the two countries.

Mr Namhong’s visit also aims to learn about the construction of the 260-mw Don Sahong Hydropower Project in Champassak Province as civil society organizations and people in Cambodia are curious about the development of the project.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong and his delegation paid a courtesy call to Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith in Vientiane.

At the talks, held at the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Thongloun appreciated the visiting guests on their visit to Laos as a significant contribution to promoting and strengthening the longstanding neighbourly relations between Laos and Cambodia.

PM Thonglong also expressed gratitude to the government of Cambodia for its support to the ASEAN Chairmanship 2016 of the Lao government.

Both sides noted that the two countries have been witnessing the constant growth of bilateral cooperation over the past years.

This month, Laos and Cambodia will open Nong Nokkhiene - Trapeang Kriel International Border Checkpoint. The Prime Ministers of the two countries are expected to attend its opening ceremony.

The two countries are also expected to conduct a joint survey on the construction site of the Lao-Cambodia Xelamphao bridge and a border checkpoint, and address border issues.

On the same day, Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong and his delegation also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Saleumxay Kommasith.
