H.E Mr. Saleumxay Kommasith, Foreign Minister of the Lao PDR, led the Lao Delegation to attend the 10th Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) Ministerial Meeting chaired by United States Secretary of State, Mr. Rex Tillerson, which took place in Manila, on 6th August 2017.
The meeting was joined by Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, and Secretary General of ASEAN and delegations.
The ministers praised the progress of the implementation of work plans and projects. Under the initiative, Laos and the United States are implementing two projects, namely Smart Infrastructure for the Mekong (SIM) project at the Ministry of Energy and Mines, and Connecting Mekong through Education and Training (COMET) project at the National University of Laos.
Together they discussed the United States' proposed Mekong Water Data Initiative, which adopted by the ministers alongside with the adoption of the Tenth LMI Foreign Ministers Meeting joint declaration.
