On the occasion of the 25^th Anniversary of ASEM foundation, which falls on 1 March, on behalf of the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and on my own behalf, I would like to convey my sincere congratulation and best wishes to the Lao people and the people of ASEM member countries.

Throughout 25 years of its existence, ASEM has shown an importantrole to integrate and connect Asia and Europe. Currently, ASEM has become the unique and significant forum for political dialogue, economic cooperation and socio-cultural and education exchange, based on principles of mutual respect, equal partnership and win-win cooperation as well as tackling emerging global issues and various challenges together.

In the midst ofchallenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic,which have causedgrave disruptions to the socio-economic development, political stability and securityas well as impacted heavily on health and the lives of the people of the two regions of Asia and Europe and the worldat large, the ASEM countries have further strengthened close cooperation, which has been reflected through the virtual meeting amongst ASEM SOM Leaders, the endorsement of ASEM Ministerial Statement on CORONAVIRUS Disease to seek the ways and measures to prevent and combat COVID-19 pandemic, including to address the socio-economic impact focusing on international cooperation and support, maintaining resilient, open and uninterrupted supply chains and working together in the post-pandemic phase, with a view to bring about the tangible benefits to the people of the two regions of Asia and Europe.

Over the past 17 years of its ASEM Membership, the Lao PDR has actively engaged and contributed to the ASEM process and activities including hosting of the 9^th ASEM Summit in 20212 and regularly attended meetings at various levels. To celebrate the 25^th Anniversary of ASEM foundation, the Lao PDR will continue to work closely with ASEM members and partners to further enhance the importance of and support ASEM process.

On this auspicious occasion, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all ASEM members for their continuous support, cooperation and assistance extended to the        Lao PDR. I sincerely hope that the long-lasting and good cooperation between Asia and Europe will be further strengthened and move forwards into a new level for mutual benefits of the people of the two regions of Asia and Europe.
